According to the model and conversations with an insider at EA and EA, the Madden rating team weighs the current year's speeds higher than the previous year, and the model suggests that tight-ends get the greatest boost in score because they are faster than their counterparts, and are closely followed by quarterbacks.

There's a possibility that opinions are that are incorporated into the scores, too in the sense that a pure quantitative approach doesn't provide the full picture of the results given by EA. It shouldn't come as a surprise.
